LIBNOR Lanuches the Second Phase of the ISO 26000 implementation Project
After the successful implementation of the first phase of the project in 2011, the second phase of this project will be starting in February 2012. 4 organizations will be selected and assisted.
The basic selection criteria of the four organizations are:
- Being a legal entity
- Respect the National Social Security rules and regulations
- Motivated and Committed
- Willing to allocate adequate resources to initiate SR projects

LIBNOR Part of the ISO INS Project
LIBNOR is taking part of the new ISO Pilot Project on the institutional strengthening of a number of National standardization bodies. The pilot project is intended to cover 18 ISO member bodies from the 9 regions. This project contributes to achieving one of the outputs of ISO Action Plan for developing countries 2011-2015 and responds to needs that were clearly expressed during the consultation process that led to the Action Plan.
ISO will work with the targeted ISO members to directly assess their specific needs so as to draw up a list of priority actions, which will then be addressed through the delivery of ISO technical assistance.

Olive and Olive Oil Technical Committee Meeting
Based on an official request addressed to LIBNOR by the Minister of Agriculture, LIBNOR ”, is currently updating the mandatory Lebanese standard for “Olive Oils and Olive Pomace Oils”, NL 756:2007, with special focus on the designations of oils therein.
The Lebanese technical committee NL TC 34/SC11 “Fats and Oils” -comprising more than 20 people representing all relevant ministries, public administrations, accredited laboratories and representatives of universities, international organizations, associations, trades, importers and unions- held several meetings to discuss the necessity of raising consumer awareness, accurate and clear designations for olive oils and labels, strengthening controls and conformity checks, activation of national laboratories for oil analysis, requesting the performance of all chemical tests on samples of olive.

LIBNOR Participates in the DEVCO CAG Meeting in Geneva
Being member of the ISO DEVCO Chair’s Advisory Group (CAG), Eng. Léna Dargham, LIBNOR Acting Director General, participated in the 15th meeting of the DEVCO CAG in Geneva on March 19-20, at the ISO central secretariat. The group closed the 2005-2010 DEVCO action plan for developing countries, studied its key performance indicators (KPIs) and evaluated the implementation of the action plan. The CAG also went through the DEVT work program for 2011 and started the monitoring of the ISO Action Plan for developing countries 2011-2015 (with KPIs and impact assessment). The Group set 19-20 September as the date of its next meeting in India.

LIBNOR Member in Technical Committee ISO/TC 260 – Human Resource Management
LIBNOR is now an O-Member in the International Technical Committee ISO/TC 260. The management board of this TC has been established and the TC is allowed 18 months to establish a preliminary work program and structure and elaborate a draft business plan. It will work on standardization in the field of human resource management. The members of this TC are currently 22, with 8 P-members and 14 O-members.

Series of ISO Standards for Fair and Transparent Construction Procurement
A new series of ISO standards offers the international construction industry practical tools to ensure fair competition, reduce the possibility of abuse and improve predictability in procurement outcomes.
The ISO 10845 series of standards for construction procurement, which consists of eight parts, will help organizations establish a procurement system that is fair, equitable, transparent, competitive and cost-effective. These International Standards are designed to help public, private and international organizations and their main contractors to align their procurement systems with international best practice.
These standards can help those engaged in procurement activities to better perform their duties. They will help promote a uniform procurement system and improve the quality of procurement documents. Its standard processes, procedures and methods can also serve as a basis for developing consistent curricula for education in procurement and form the basis for capacity-building needed to procure much needed infrastructure, particularly in developing countries.

ISO Launches a Compilation of Crane Standards on CD-ROM
ISO announced the launch of a compilation of crane standards among the series of standards on CD-ROM.
This new product will be useful for designers, manufacturers, owners, operators, sellers, inspectors, consultants and crane authorities. it contains the standards developed bu ISO technical committee ISO/TC96, Cranes, in which a number of the world's leading experts take part.
The CD-ROM format provides an easy and rapid access to the standards on cranes in a conveniently transportable format, at an attractive price of CHF 252.
